Smalls Sliders, backed by Drew Brees and Brandon Landry, will use shipping containers for its restaurants.
Smalls Sliders is the newest concept backed by New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees, also an equity partner in Walk-On’s Bistreaux and Bar, and Walk-On’s co-founder Brandon Landry. Jacob Dugas, Landry’s nephew who owned a catering business, is also getting in on the game.
“We both really like sliders a lot,” says Dugas, and he and Uncle Brandon had many conversations about food. “He’s a really creative guy. I said. I’m all in. It’s gotten sweeter and sweeter.”
Then Brees signed on. “Drew loved it and it just snowballed.”
Unlike Walk-On’s, known for an elaborate menu showcasing New Orleans cuisine, Smalls Sliders is thinking little. “Simplicity is the overarching theme,” Dugas says. “If we’re doing one product it has to be the best.”
They’ll use shipping containers for the quick-service restaurants. “It’s another way to differentiate ourselves,” he says, and also allows for simultaneous work on the site and the modular restaurant.
“Just with the names involved there’s a lot of interest,” Dugan says. The first Smalls Sliders is scheduled to open this summer in Baton Rouge.
